The Government of Canada has just announced the prohibition of over 300 additional makes and models of firearms under another Order in Council. This desperate move by a struggling government appears to be an attempt to secure votes from urban voters while providing no tangible public safety benefits.
Coming just three weeks before Christmas, this decision will absolutely devastate businesses in Canada’s hunting, shooting, and firearms industry, putting livelihoods at risk during an already challenging economic period.
While continuing to drop in the polls, and despite no support for these measures from law enforcement, the government is seeking to create a distraction by targeting lawful firearm owners and businesses, a strategy that has clearly failed to address the rising crime rates in Canada.
This hollow gesture is yet another example of total mismanagement, with taxpayers footing the bill for a ballooning buyback program far exceeding initial cost estimates. It’s clear that this announcement is more about political optics than meaningful policy.
As we receive more information, we will continue to keep our members informed and stand firm in advocating for responsible firearm ownership and the businesses that make up the impacted industry.
We will have more details shortly on new regulations underway and details on what is being prohibited.

- Effective December 5, 2024, an expanded prohibition covers 104 families of firearms (324 unique models).
- An amnesty order is in place until October 30, 2025
